Weatherford Approves Fleet Replacements, Surplus of Older Police Units and Camera System Upgrades

The Weatherford City Commission declared a list of older police vehicles and equipment surplus and approved multiple purchases to replace and upgrade the department's fleet and recording systems.

Police leadership told the commission several older patrol cars had accumulated substantial idle hours and required major repairs; the chief said extended idling had caused engine damage and several vehicles are inoperable without new motors. The council declared the listed vehicles and some legacy camera systems surplus to be sold or recycled.

Following that declaration, the council approved the purchase of a Ford F‑150 extended cab pickup for ambulance control (listed on the agenda as $400,961 on state bid), and authorized the purchase of four Dodge Durango police pursuit SUVs at a state bid total of $182,672. The chief explained the department preferred Durangos for parts commonality and ground clearance; delivery was expected in three to six months.

The council also approved $48,110 for upfitting the new patrol units and authorized a Lens Lock in‑car camera system and integration with recently purchased Lens Lock body cameras. Staff said the camera package would provide updated recording capability and that the company would provide scheduled replacements under contract.

Commissioners approved each item by voice vote or roll call as presented on the agenda. Staff did not request additional changes to procurement strategies during the meeting.
