The Hillsborough County Commission on Human Trafficking voted Jan. 23 to accept modifications to its contract with Scribe Crisis Center of Tampa Bay, including a shorter follow‑up window for the human‑trafficking care coordinator and a change to the job description for a community ambassador.
At the meeting, the crisis center’s representative described two primary changes: reducing the mandated follow‑up period for the care coordinator from 60 days to 14 days — the center said survivors are rarely still in active contact at 60 days — and altering the former "nurse ambassador" requirement to a "human trafficking ambassador" with a bachelor's‑degree minimum. The speaker said the pay rate is expected to decrease with the new job classification but could not provide precise figures at the meeting; the position would move from roughly 30 hours per week to 40 hours per week under the revised arrangement.
County staff noted the member who works for the Crisis Center will complete and file the required conflict‑of‑interest disclosure (Form 8B) and abstain from voting on the contract. The motion to accept the revisions was made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
Commissioners also discussed expanding community trainings and the ambassador role’s ability to provide additional trainings at no extra charge as part of negotiations. Staff said the contract modification will be published with the meeting recap and the conflict‑of‑interest form will be placed on the record as required by county policy.
