Reno County renames section of former K-1496 to honor longtime public-works employee

Reno County commissioners approved a resolution renaming a stretch of former K-1496 to honor a longtime Reno County public-works employee who died in the line of duty.

Don Britton, director of public works, explained the county assumed maintenance of the roadway and recommended naming the segment from the intersection of Hodge Road and 80 Second Avenue north to the Reno County line as "Service Avenue." Britton said the employee had 26 years of service with the county and recommended the name to recognize his work and sacrifice. Britton also said the county would install four signs along the route and that he had arranged to give the first sign to the family.

Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the renaming on a 4-0 roll call. Chair and commissioners noted the family presentation planned after the meeting.
