Commissioners approve antenna/data-collection equipment at Roma Port of Entry at no cost to Starr County

Starr County Commissioners voted unanimously on Dec. 23 to authorize a facility upgrade at the Roma Port of Entry to install an antenna/data-collection unit intended to support vehicle communications at the port. County staff told the court the equipment would be provided by CBT at no cost to the county and sought only the court’s authorization to accept the upgrade.

"This would be at no cost to the county and CBT would provide it," a county staff representative said while explaining that the installation supports communications for vehicles moving through port operations. Judge Eloy Vera made a motion to approve, a second was recorded, and the court answered with a unanimous "aye." The motion was announced as carrying.

County staff did not describe procurement terms, installation schedule or specific technical specifications for the unit during the meeting; staff indicated the request was limited to authorization and that the county would not incur cost for the equipment itself. Commissioners did not request additional bids or a formal contract during the session; the authorization recorded in the minutes provides the county administrative clearance to accept the upgrade from CBT should implementation proceed.

The decision was procedural: staff will implement the authorization and coordinate installation details with CBT and port operations. No public comment or opposition was recorded on the matter during the meeting.
