Council endorses county-funded study for countywide transportation vision

The Royal Palm Beach Village Council on Dec. 19 adopted a resolution encouraging Palm Beach County and municipalities to pursue a jointly funded countywide transportation plan that creates a shared vision for mobility and helps identify funding options.

Staff explained the county has funded a countywide transportation study and that the selection committee will include county and city staff and other stakeholders; the study is intended to create a cooperative approach for drafting a countywide vision for transportation and mobility. "The county has never done this before. This is unprecedented in the approach that they're taking," staff said during the discussion. Council members pressed staff on municipal obligations; staff responded, "There is no money involved in this whatsoever" at the current stage and described the resolution as an agreement to participate in the study and in the intergovernmental coordination processes, not a commitment of local funds.

The motion to adopt the resolution passed unanimously. Council members noted the importance of county-city coordination, referenced the intergovernmental coordination program and said participating on the executive committee and selection process would allow the village to help shape future funding and mobility priorities.
