District staff and a Tempeo representative presented a proposal to renovate the Tempe View High School baseball infield, showing a vendor estimate that focuses on correcting uneven grades, replacing clay soil with a baseball-specific infield mix and installing sod. The presenter identified an infield-focused estimate around $78,000 (a separate estimate addressed the pitcher’s mound) and said a donor and community fundraising would cover the work.
Board members pressed staff on procurement rules: purchases above $50,000 typically trigger an RFP, unless a vendor is on state contract. Staff said DuraEdge had been on a state contract but later noted that it appears they "no longer do" and that district procurement staff would confirm the vendor status. Staff also flagged timing concerns: DuraEdge gave a worst-case schedule of six weeks out and a few weeks to complete work, but said earlier availability had been shorter; weather and ground-freezing risks could push work to spring if not completed soon.
Members discussed longer-term maintenance and the possibility of contracting a multi-year field-maintenance program; staff said such programs exist and could include regular conditioning and laser grading. The board did not vote; staff said a business meeting in October could include a formal request if procurement details and donor arrangements are finalized.
