At its October meeting the Chatham County Board of Commissioners moved through a series of administrative and legislative items.
The board voted to accept the action calendar in its entirety after a motion and second. County staff presented multiple budget amendments and transfers across funds: a general fund transfer of $592,693; street lighting ($6,677); E‑911 ($287,712); a welfare/wellness fund item of $1,230,244; increases to hotel‑motel tax revenues and expenditures ($353,080); a general fund increase of $2,552,327 listed in the agenda packet; and a $5,000,000 addition in Sales Tax 7 fund to establish a fire department capital project. Following the presentation a motion was made and seconded to approve the requests and commissioners were asked to cast their votes.
On land‑use business the board took a first reading of a rezoning petition for 209 Shipyard Road (MPC file Z‑0825‑000573) from R‑1E to B‑1E to legalize a nonconforming landscape business; no public comments were offered and the item was continued to a second reading.
The meeting also included a second reading and vote on a county‑wide speed‑zone ordinance update. Staff said studies informed both reductions and increases in particular speed limits across districts; a motion and second were made and commissioners were asked to vote.
Before adjourning the board voted to recess to an executive session to discuss litigation, land acquisition and personnel matters.
Motions and votes were recorded in the public minutes; specific roll‑call tallies were requested by the chair and commissioners were directed to cast their votes during the meeting.
