The Bolton Board of Selectmen voted to disband a prior Board of Education building committee and directed staff to begin forming a new temporary building committee to get a stalled middle-school roof project moving.
Chair and other members said the prior committee had not advanced the project and that the town would assemble a temporary panel with construction experience to drive procurement and oversight. The proposed composition discussed at the meeting was two Board of Education members, two selectmen and three at-large members with construction experience; the town charter was referenced for rules on temporary commissions. "It's irresponsible at this point to walk away," one selectman said, arguing the board needs to act because of the building's deterioration.
The chair described the roof as a large project, stating, "It's gonna it's gonna be a $5,000,000 project anyways, so it's not chump change." Selectmen agreed to put formation of the new committee on the next agenda and to solicit three at-large members with relevant construction background.
What happens next: the board will advertise for and vet at-large members and will return to a future meeting with a proposed committee membership and charge. Any funding or contract approvals will require separate formal votes.
