The Selma City Council adopted Resolution 2025-129 on Dec. 2 to approve a citywide Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) required by CalOSHA. Deputy City Manager Fowler said the fire department and HR collaborated on the plan and that the city’s risk-management partner reviewed the document.
“CalOSHA requires that we have a plan such as this,” Fowler said, adding the IIPP will be trained to all new employees and used for spring heat-illness preparations for outdoor crews. Staff said the program will centralize safety training records, support a new safety committee and help the city remain in compliance with inspections.
Council members commended the prevention focus and noted the program could reduce long-term workers’ compensation exposure by improving training and recordkeeping. The resolution passed on a roll-call vote.
What’s next: HR will implement training, collect records in employee files, and staff will present updated policies and the new safety committee structure for council review in coming months.
