At an organizational meeting on Dec. 1, 2025, the Mason City Council unanimously elected and administered the oath of office to Joshua Strickula as mayor and to Scott Gibson as vice mayor.
The council held a roll-call vote on a single nominee for mayor; each council member present answered "yes." Judge Tee administered the oath to Joshua Strickula, who pledged to support the U.S. and Ohio constitutions and to perform the duties of the mayor’s office "to the best of my abilities." After taking the oath, Strickula delivered brief remarks thanking voters, family and staff and outlining priorities including fiscal stewardship and downtown revitalization. "I am well aware that none of you came here to listen to me speak," he said, closing with praise for the new council.
Council members then nominated and unanimously approved Scott Gibson for vice mayor. Gibson took the oath of office and pledged to "perform the duties of the office of vice mayor" to the best of his ability. Colleagues offered congratulations after both oaths.
The meeting also included ceremonial swearing-in of newly elected council members. A clerk-conducted roll call showed all council members present. After remarks from the mayor and council members, the body paused for a group photo (photographer Colleen named) and a reception outside before the meeting was adjourned by motion.
No ordinances, resolutions or policy votes were recorded on the agenda; the session focused on organizational matters, oaths of office, and introductory remarks. The council adjourned following the ceremonial items.
