Morgan County commissioners voted to accept a contract with Extra Duty Solutions to manage off‑duty employment for sheriff’s deputies, allowing a single private vendor to handle requests, payroll and workers’ compensation for deputies working private security.

Sheriff Rich told the board the vendor would centralize off‑duty assignments and that "everything that they get, they get 10% off the top," and that the company would also "take care of any workman's comp" for deputies working those assignments. Rich said the arrangement would not cost taxpayers or deputies additional pay; the fee would be charged to the private entity hiring the deputy.

Commissioners pressed for contract language on standard protections. County counsel asked that the agreement include an "exhibit A" with nondiscrimination and nonappropriation language and confirmed a 30‑day termination clause already in the draft. Commissioners also asked how vehicle use and insurance would be handled; the sheriff said vehicle and insurance reimbursements can be structured in the contract with fees to reimburse county costs.

Speaker 3 moved to approve the Extra Duty Solutions contract pending the requested addendum; the motion was seconded and the board approved it unanimously. The sheriff said the contract aims to guarantee deputies receive timely pay and to centralize off‑duty scheduling and liability handling.

Next steps: county counsel will circulate the recommended exhibit A language to the vendor and the contract will return for execution once the addendum is agreed.
