The Trenton City Council handled a series of administrative and financial matters at its Dec. 1 meeting, including an appointment to the Historical Commission, authorization of county permits, approval of disbursements and scheduling a closed session for litigation.

Appointment: Council approved Mayor Rezeppa’s appointment of Caitlin Spezia to the Historical Commission for a term expiring Dec. 1, 2028. The clerk called the roll for the motion; recorded votes in the transcript show seven recorded responses with Mayor Rezeppa recording an abstention and the motion carrying.

County permits: DPS director Sargent requested authorization for the city administrator and DPW director to sign the Wayne County 2026 annual permit package that covers maintenance, pavement restoration and temporary road closures for special events. The council approved the authorization unanimously.

Disbursements: The council approved authorized disbursements dated Dec. 1, 2025 in the amount of $593,645.09 by motion and unanimous support.

Closed session: A motion to hold a closed session immediately after the regular meeting for a litigation update was moved, supported and carried on a roll-call vote.

Tax bills: The treasurer reported that tax bills have been mailed; many bills contained an incorrect year (2025) and residents were informed the correct due date is Feb. 17, 2026. Residents who do not receive a bill within a week were asked to contact the treasurer’s office.

Community reminders: The mayor and DDA director announced upcoming Noel Knights holiday events, including a downtown parade and tree lighting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, ticketed trivia and a hot-cocoa walk; the DDA said the scarecrow contest drew nearly 600 votes.
