The council considered File 2025-0358, a petition to amend the Saint Charles Parish zoning ordinance to rezone Lot G at 180 Almedia Road (Almedia Plantation, Saint Rose) from R-1AM (single-family/modular) to M-1 (light manufacturing).

Michael Albert presented the department's recommendation and said both the department and the planning commission recommended denial, finding the request did not meet the applicable review criteria. The chair opened the item for public hearing; no members of the public spoke.

Councilwoman O'Daniels, whose district includes the site, said Almedia Road already includes M-1 parcels but that the subject property serves as a buffer between heavier industrial uses and long-standing residential property. She said neighbors objected and that upzoning immediately adjacent to housing was inappropriate. The council discussed land-use compatibility and existing allowances for a trailer or rental use on the lot under current classification.

The council voted; the rezoning request failed unanimously.
