Principal Michelle Goode opened a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Williams Elementary, announcing that the campus has received classroom renovations and security upgrades carried out as part of Austin ISD's 2022 bond program. Students led the school motto and debuted a new school song during the event.
"As part of the 2022 bond program, Williams received renovations to open concept spaces," Principal Michelle Goode said, noting that teachers are "thrilled that they now have doors," a change she and others highlighted as improving both instruction and safety. Attendees were invited to tours of the new spaces and refreshments after the formal program.
District representative Mateus Sikora praised the community investment, thanking teachers, parents and bond voters and saying the modernized classrooms reflect the district's priorities. "Safe, inspiring environments where each student can thrive," Sikora said, describing the project as part of Austin ISD's broader effort to update neighborhood schools.
Trustee Lynn Boswell, who spoke on behalf of the Board, framed the renovation as "an investment not just in a building, but in our students, in our educators, in our neighborhood, and in our community." Boswell said the project is among the first major bond openings to be completed and noted that Trustee Andrew Gonzalez, who represents the area, was unable to attend but sent congratulations.
Goode acknowledged the design and construction teams, naming Smith and Company (architects), AECOM (program manager), and the construction contractor (transcribed as "Belfort Beatty"). She also recognized the CAT team of teachers, staff, parents and community members who helped shape the new spaces. The principal said the renovations included upgrades to the front entrance and building security in addition to adding classroom doors and full walls where appropriate.
The ceremony concluded with a coordinated ribbon cut and photos. Project-team members remained available to lead guided tours for families and community members following the event.
Next steps: Williams is open for students in the renovated spaces; district officials said more bond projects are scheduled to open in the coming months.
