During a special Vermillion County meeting, commissioners opened sealed submissions for several 2026 highway-related contracts and materials and decided to postpone award decisions while staff completes bid tabulation.
Speaker 2 led the opening of bids for multiple categories including aggregate sand, gravel and stone (Maguire Excavating & Trucking), asphalt materials (Daniel Ribby Trucking), gasoline and diesel supplies (Scott Oil Inc. and Sunrise FS), pit-run gravel (Canizer Excavating), culverts and drainage products (Bridal Culverts Inc., Civicon Pipe), and other county highway materials. Commissioners noted each vendor’s submission appeared to include the required documents.
Speaker 2 said the commission would "take all these bids under advisement" and asked that the highway administrator, referenced in the meeting as 'Tia', tabulate and assemble the bids into a table for board review. "If anybody's interested in seeing the bids, just get with Tia after the meeting or in the next few days," Speaker 2 said.
Speaker 1 moved to table the opened bids until the next commissioners meeting to allow staff to tabulate them; Speaker 2 seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. Speaker 2 asked that Tia email the board with recommendations prior to the commission’s seventeenth meeting.
The meeting record does not show any award decisions or contract approvals; commissioners deferred final action to a later date pending staff tabulation and recommendations.
