The City Council approved a partnership with the Military Moms Organization to move military tribute banners to Wheeler Park for greater public visibility; the city will help with placement and the group will assist verification and fundraising. Motion passed 6‑0.
The Lake Havasu City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a partnership with the Military Moms Organization to place military tribute banners at Wheeler Park.
Cindy Ritter, who said she has worked with Military Moms for 12 years, told the council the group provides 24/7 support for families of enlisted service members and has long sought a more visible site for banners honoring local service members. City staff and the Military Moms organization will work together on an application and verification process; banners will remain up while individuals are in service and will be retired and returned to families after service ends.
Parks staff and the applicant said the proposal will move some banners from the mall to the park, where the city has space for about 25 banners; Ritter said the group currently has 10 banners at the mall. Council members asked how the city will verify service records and how many banners the location can sustain; Ritter said Military Moms will assist with verification and fundraising, while parks crews will install and maintain poles and banners.
Council member David Diaz moved to approve the partnership agreement and council member Nancy Campbell seconded; the motion carried 6‑0.
Next steps: staff said application materials will be posted on the city website and the city will coordinate installation logistics with the group.
