Hanover Park honored the second graduating class of its newly revitalized Citizens Police Academy at the Nov. 20 village meeting, presenting certificates to residents who completed the 10-week program.
A police department presenter described the academy as an immersive course that exposed participants to patrol operations, emergency response, criminal investigations, evidence collection, crime-scene processing, use of force and legal considerations. The presenter said the program is intended to build relationships, promote transparency and foster collaboration between officers and residents.
Lieutenant Gordon Hendry was identified in the meeting as the program director. An instructor called graduates forward individually to receive certificates; named participants included Crystal Ayala, Jose Bello, Albertine Bettbabu, Jennifer Chicas, Monica Depta, Alma Kamaseya, Alrick Pivaral (not present), Yvonne Preston, Laura Riley, Irma Rodriguez and Gurmeet Singh.
Organizers invited graduates to remain engaged with the department, and the board thanked them for their time and service. A group photo and refreshments followed the ceremony.
