Superintendent Laurie used the board meeting to highlight student and community successes and to outline district partnerships addressing student needs.
Laurie congratulated the ad hoc student board member on a 96.62 average for the first 10-week marking period and singled out students bound for state-level swimming and diving championships. He also highlighted that 21 of the county's 100-member all-county choir come from Niagara Falls, and praised district music and athletics programs for strong representation.
On student supports and fundraising, Laurie said the district delivered $20,500 as a first check to Roswell Park Cancer Institute for student Dominic Strangio and reported broad fundraising activity by the district. He also reported ongoing deliveries of beds through a partner program (50 beds delivered with another shipment expected on December 7) and thanked volunteers Anne Legasse and Nicole Mambria and their group Grandma's Little Gifts for preparing 285 holiday baskets for McKinney-Vento or homeless students.
Laurie described a continuing partnership with neighboring districts for coordinated community service days and referenced a packet of answers the board requested about the Maystow lawsuit, including historical contribution figures and next steps. He closed by wishing the community a happy Thanksgiving and reminding families of upcoming school days.
What happens next: The superintendent's updates do not require board action beyond implementation by the appropriate departments; some items (bed deliveries, grant work and community partnerships) will proceed through the district's existing programs and vendor contracts.
