At its regular meeting, the Lapeer County Board of Commissioners authorized the county administrator and buildings & grounds director to accept the best offer for the county-owned property at 279 North Court (the former Register of Deeds building) and recorded the sale action to appear in the minutes of the Dec. 18 regular meeting.
Commissioners discussed whether the motion should specify "highest" versus "best" offer; the board agreed to clarify the motion to permit consideration of terms and viability in addition to price. The board took a roll-call vote on the sale authorization and approved it; commissioners voting yes included Commissioner Nisley, Commissioner McMahon, Commissioner Wise, Commissioner Zender, Commissioner Hagedahl and Chairman Howe.
On other properties items, the board approved a recommendation to accept DNR RIF-26-15 grant funds for maintenance of the county park (recorded in the motion as the Polyanne Veil maintenance grant) and authorized the chairman to sign the agreement. The board also approved a motion allowing Buildings and Grounds to proceed with marketing and rebranding work for the Torzewski Waterpark (referred to in discussion as a name and logo refresh). Commissioners said new signage and a marketing campaign will support the park’s reopening and renovation efforts.
The board’s actions on these property items included instructions that the final sale terms be managed by the administrator and that any sale would be recorded in the official minutes at the December regular meeting.
Next steps: Staff will continue negotiations on the 279 N. Court offers, return sale documentation to the board for the Dec. 18 minutes record, and proceed with DNR grant paperwork and waterpark branding work through Buildings and Grounds.
