Berkeley County commissioners approved an agreement under which the county’s GIS/addressing staff will perform addressing assignments for the City of Martinsburg going forward. Staff said the city already authorized the arrangement on its side and that the county will assign addresses to national standards and immediately upload them into the 9-1-1 center’s datasets.

Gary described the work as routine and noted that city residents already pay the same 9-1-1 fees as county residents, so the county will perform the addressing as part of existing service relationships. The commission voted to authorize the president to sign the agreement.

The agreement is intended to standardize addressing across jurisdictional boundaries and to provide a single authoritative dataset for emergency response.
