City fleet staff told the Infrastructure Committee that approximately half of Roswell’s vehicle fleet is older than 15 years and that the city’s equipment repair budget stands at roughly $2,000,000. Staff said prolonged maintenance costs now exceed thresholds that make replacement more cost-effective for many units.
"According to it, it's saying about half our fleet is over 15 years old," the presenter said while walking the committee through the FLEADIO/Palladio dashboard data. Staff described a plan to meet with every department to identify critical vehicle needs and to prepare a prioritized five-year replacement plan. The aim is to convert the data into actionable procurement recommendations and lessen long-term maintenance spending.
Committee members and staff discussed the safety benefits of replacing aging vehicles and the potential to reduce maintenance costs by buying new equipment and tracking maintenance more effectively. Staff said targeted purchases and better preventive maintenance could reduce overall costs by an estimated percentage over several years, and that they will present a department-by-department list of immediate needs for council consideration.
Next steps: staff will continue data collection and present a prioritized replacement list and budget recommendations to the committee and to finance.
