Sam Robertson, Cache-Ogden district biologist, presented proposed revisions to hunt tables and season dates for 2025–2027, including options tied to drought permits and an additional cow/hunter-choice hunt for Henry Mountain bison. RAC members asked for harvest and population metrics, and Robertson estimated a post‑season adult population objective of 325 adults while reporting a current adult population near 368 and an expected post-season adult estimate of about 280 given proposed permits.
RAC members debated how to allocate 19 drought permits and whether to run new cow hunts concurrently with existing cow hunts or to swap season dates so the new cow hunt would occupy the late-archery dates. A motion to run the cow hunts concurrently failed; a later motion to accept the proposal as presented passed 7–1.
Wade, a region coordinator, said historical data informed the recommendation: archery success rates and wounding-loss figures influenced the proposed lengths of hunts. He noted that archery wounding loss was about 12–13% compared with ~2.3% for any-weapon hunts and that an eight-day emergency hunt precedent exists.
The RAC approved a boundary change (motion passed unanimously earlier during the item) and ultimately voted to accept the hunt-table and season-date revisions with the majority supporting the package. The division will implement the schedule and monitor outcomes and population trends through the next seasons.
The vote was procedural and non-legislative; the RAC’s role is advisory to the Wildlife Board, which sets final policy.
