Killeen Economic Development Corporation told council it closed on a Blue Acre industrial site to a developer and that an existing tenant, MCI, expanded its leased space to about 25,700 sq ft and increased employees to over 150. EDC outlined branding and recruitment activities for 2026.
Tyler Robert, vice president of economic development for the Killeen Economic Development Corporation (KEDC), briefed council on the EDC's quarterly activity and business development pipeline.
Robert said the EDC closed recently on a Blue Acre development site to a private developer that will support a planned industrial park. "It will provide over 170,000 square feet of new industrial flex space within our community," he said, noting the developer will present plans to the appropriate boards before construction.
Robert also outlined tenant growth at a KEDC-owned property: MCI increased its leased space from roughly 13,000 square feet when it joined the site to 25,700 square feet as of Nov. 1 and expanded its workforce from about 40 to more than 150 employees. The EDC credited workforce partners and a recent job fair for on-site hires.
On marketing and recruitment, Robert said the EDC updated its brand and is targeting advanced manufacturing, logistics and tech, including outreach through trade magazines and participation in site-selection conferences. He said the EDC expects new market materials, renderings and a website update by the end of the year and plans an economic development summit and other recruitment events in 2026.
Council members thanked the EDC for the update and asked follow-ups about the types of industries being pursued and whether publicly funded infrastructure would be used to support private projects; Robert said some projects will require developer-built improvements and additional board reviews.
No formal council action was required on the briefing.
