Celine Ahumada Tirada, director of warehouse and reprographics, outlined department operations and highlighted two efficiency measures that she said will reduce district costs.
A central point of the presentation was in‑house printing of curriculum consumables. Ahumada Tirada said the publisher’s price for the adopted materials would have been $424,865, but printing the materials in‑house required only $6,599.50 in consumables, yielding an estimated savings of about $418,265.50. "If instead we print all of those items here, we are only paying for the ink and the paper," she said, noting that print‑on‑demand reduces upfront costs, storage needs and waste.
She also described warehouse services — receiving, inspection, delivery, furniture depot reuse and e‑waste recycling — and said those central logistics functions help sites access supplies more efficiently. The warehouse maintains a staff‑facing "Furniture Depot" listing for onsite reuse and runs a public auction account for surplus items that cannot be reused.
On reprographics equipment, Ahumada Tirada said the district negotiated a substantial reduction in the proposed equipment lease cost, from $5,000,000 to $2,500,000, and said new equipment arriving in December would have automation and faster throughput.
Board members asked clarifying questions about who pays for supplies (site budgets typically pay for classroom materials ordered through the warehouse) and whether teachers can request extra paper; staff said sites manage allocations and administrators authorize additional site purchases.
No board action was taken on the presentation; board members thanked the reprographics and warehouse teams for the cost savings and operational improvements.
