Tryon Barnhill, president of the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization, addressed the board seeking $5,000 to support operations and upgrades at the organization’s facility (including memorial garden expansion, road paving and building repairs). Barnhill said the organization’s primary fundraising source is an annual reunion and that the group is pursuing grants and corporate donations. He noted the county previously contributed $7,500 toward paving and other work.

Commissioners expressed a desire to review available funds at year-end before committing additional appropriations. A motion to table the request until the next meeting so staff can assess available budget was moved, seconded and approved.
