Detention center leadership updated the Grant County Board of Commissioners on staffing, programming and accreditation on Nov. 13.
The detention manager said security operations are fully staffed with four officers in training and multiple staff in CDL and program roles. The facility reported an average daily population for October of 81, with 97 intakes and 93 releases in October and a most recent population snapshot of 97 (67 males, 22 females, 8 males housed in Hidalgo). The RISE reentry program had 22 participants in October (9 in facility, 13 in community).
Staff said they are starting a laundry room renovation and planning a mail‑enclosure project, and that a PLC control upgrade is on the agenda. Accreditation remains a priority: the department asked the accreditation council for an extension while Doña Ana County assists with updating the policy DMS and standards in preparation for an on‑site audit in March.
Commissioners pressed for a breakdown of detention operating costs: Chairman Ponce specifically requested staff produce per‑inmate daily and annual cost estimates and related budget figures to support advocacy for fuller funding of the detention reimbursement fund at the legislature. The board also discussed related legislative priorities adopted later in the meeting, which include fully funding the detention reimbursement program and ongoing detention recruitment/retention funds.
Detention staff agreed to compile the requested cost information and continue coordination with county finance before the legislative session.
