A team from ConnectHumanity and technical partner Hawk Networks introduced themselves to the Grant County Board of Commissioners during public input on Nov. 13, saying they spent a week meeting businesses and residents in Pinos Altos and Silver City to document Internet connectivity problems (speed, affordability, reliability). Erica Mesker said the team is conducting a fact‑finding mission, distributed flyers with contact information and a survey link, and plans to return in 2026 with a draft plan and a formal presentation to the commission.
In public comment, Paul Foreman urged the county to review citations and local enforcement of rules that restrict 'side‑by‑side' off‑road vehicles on paved roads and to consider parking/access at Forest Service trailheads. Foreman said he has a permanent plate, insurance and a permit but continues to be stopped and ticketed; he asked the commission to "look into this, not just blow it off." Chairman Ponce advised residents that state highways are under the New Mexico Department of Transportation and suggested taking some concerns to the State Transportation Commission public meeting in Sunland Park on Nov. 20 for items affecting State Road 35.
Separately, Simon Wheaton Smith introduced himself as mayor‑elect of Silver City and said he intends to meet with the county chair and manager, offering to coordinate municipal‑county communications.
