At the Nov. 13 meeting of the Professional Standards for Teacher Education Board, members elected Darren Hornbeck as chair and Dr. Ebony Shockley as vice chair after nominations and show‑of‑hands votes.
Following the elections, Hannah (State Board liaison) briefed the board on recent State Board of Education actions: adoption of COMAR induction regulations, permission to publish health framework COMAR, republishing early literacy regulations after LEA follow‑up, and a preview of the Maryland report card ratings for 2024‑25. Hannah said the Blue Ribbon recognition will continue as a state program despite the federal withdrawal of the national Blue Ribbon program.
Board members then reviewed the proposed 2026 meeting calendar and flagged conflicts. After discussion the chair asked staff to move the April 9 meeting to April 16 (to avoid spring‑break and religious conflicts) and to move the July 2 meeting to July 9 and mark it as virtual to avoid the NEA convention and proximity to the holiday. The chair instructed staff to publish the updated calendar once conflicts were confirmed.
The board also adopted the September meeting minutes (with amendments) and shared personnel announcements and farewells; a departing staff member, Joy, was recognized. Chair Hornbeck adjourned the meeting at 10:48 a.m.
