The Fall River City Disability Commission told members on Nov. 12 that its 2026 scholarship awards event is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026, at McGovern's restaurant.

Chairman Dennis Paul Celi said the commission has reached out to the same six schools used last year — Diamond, Atlantis Charter School, Arcosy Charter School, Bridal County, Aggie and Bishop Stang — and has provided principals and guidance counselors with application materials and policy guidelines. The commission set an application deadline of April 1, 2026.

The vice chair discovered that many parents and guardians were not informed last year when their students won scholarships; the commission said it will instruct guidance counselors to notify families this year so recipients' households are aware of awards.

No budget changes or additional funding sources were described at the Nov. 12 meeting. The commission did not vote on scholarship funding at this session; staff said information will be distributed to commissioners when available.
