District staff presented a proposed three-year application to the Nathan Yip Foundation to establish a school-based community food bank and student store at Frontier.

Steve (presenting for the proposal) said the project would repurpose space in Frontier to host a food bank open during school hours and a student-run store where students could obtain clothing, shoes and school supplies and gain work experience. "We thought we could make this really happen," he told the board, describing partnerships with local organizations and veterans groups already running seasonal food-box programs.

The proposed application would seek the maximum available amount (up to $75,000) over three years, with more spending in the first year for build-out (shelving, carpeting, refinishing) and lower operating costs in later years. Staff framed the plan as providing immediate family supports while offering career-exploration opportunities for students who would help run the store and market the program.

Board members asked how the initiative would coordinate with existing community food providers; staff said the plan is to partner with the American Legion Food Bank and other local organizations to consolidate services and improve access.

Next steps: staff said they intend to submit the Nathan Yip Foundation application and will return with more detailed budgets and partnership agreements for board review and possible approval.
