The Sweetwater County School District #1 Board of Trustees voted to publicly censure former trustee Cole Seppi following review of two independent investigations.
Chair Wright reported that during an executive session the board reviewed findings from outside counsel (KSB School Law of Lincoln, Nebraska) and an earlier investigation (Davis and Cannon of Sheridan, Wyoming) that both identified concerns about Seppi’s conduct toward district employees and potential exposure of student information. "The most recent investigation revealed a continuation of the same conduct," the chair said.
The board moved to issue a public censure. Trustee Garner moved the resolution and Trustee Wood seconded; the board approved the censure by voice vote and read a resolution into the public record. The resolution states the board’s disapproval and notes investigators’ findings that Seppi’s actions "raised significant concerns regarding micromanagement and his role as a trustee" and could have exposed the district to legal risk, including potential Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) issues.
Although Seppi resigned effective Oct. 28, 2025, Chair Wright said the board considered a public censure necessary "to reaffirm the board’s expectations for professionalism, respect, and ethical conduct" and to make clear that such behavior will not be tolerated or concealed. The resolution will be entered into the official minutes and maintained as public record.
The board took the action after returning from executive session; the meeting adjourned at 10:16 p.m.
