Wichita County — During the Nov. 10 Wichita County Commissioners Court meeting, a county employee speaking in public comment said about 125 county employees had not completed the health‑insurance open‑enrollment process and urged staff to enroll before the open‑enrollment deadline.
“As of this morning, we had a 125 people who are still not enrolled in their insurance,” the commenter said. The speaker explained that some employees had opened accounts when they received an Oct. 29 email but had not completed enrollment in the county navigator system, and that automatic enrollment into legacy plans (for example, Blue Cross Blue Shield) no longer occurs.
County officials and HR staff told the court they were conducting outreach. The presiding official praised HR’s communications and suggested targeted follow‑up by Wednesday, including individualized emails and phone calls. HR confirmed enrollers remain available at county locations and that staff can get help in person.
HR staff said the county expects to continue using the online navigator for annual enrollments going forward; employees will need to log into the system and indicate no change in future years if they want to keep the same coverage.
What’s next: HR will send another reminder email and supervisors were asked to assist with outreach; the court requested continued follow‑up through the enrollment deadline.
