Residents urge Hartland to add flashing crosswalk at Lindenwood and Maple after near-miss

Hartland — Two residents described dangerous conditions at the Lindenwood and Maple crosswalk and urged the Village of Hartland board to fund safety improvements including a rectangular rapid flashing beacon.

Stacy Laflamme, who lives at 1017 Woods Drive in the River Reserve subdivision, said children commonly cross Maple Avenue at Lindenwood and that drivers frequently do not yield. "Adding RRFBs to this intersection and considering adding safety enhancements to other roadways in our area is proactive and makes Heartland a better community," she told trustees and asked the board to consider a resolution to add one RRFB in 2026.

Melissa Katie, who said she lives at 1001 River Reserve Drive, recounted a recent near-miss in which her daughter was almost hit while crossing at the same crosswalk. She said the reduced speed limit has helped but drivers still often do not stop. "I really do kind of feel like a bad parent if I let her cross at that crosswalk by herself," she said.

Trustees did not vote on the RRFB request at the Nov. 10 meeting; several trustees acknowledged the safety concern and staff and trustees indicated items like crosswalks and related capital improvements will be considered within the broader budget and capital plan.
