Council approves planning commission recommendations and consent ordinances; insurance renewals, change order and grant authorized

The Solon City Council unanimously approved Planning Commission consent recommendations and passed the consent agenda after roll-call votes.

Planning Commission items approved included: - 38050 Bainbridge Road (applicant John Maher): 10-foot accessory-structure side-yard setback variance for a shed; approval contingent on Planning Department memo dated 10/06/2025 and Engineering Department memo dated 10/08/2025. Applicant present and agreed to requirements. - Davis Industrial Parkway (permanent parcel 95404099, applicant Tasted LLC): variance to allow clearing of trees; approval contingent on Planning Department memo dated 10/23/2025 and Engineering Department memo dated 10/22/2025. Representative Jeff Davis was present and agreed to requirements. - 5329 Somme Center Road (Richard and Doris Iams): multiple variances (75-foot front-yard setback variance; 10-foot side-yard setback variance; a "not parallel to street" variance; and a 9-foot accessory pavement variance from front property line); approval contingent on Planning Department memo dated 10/21/2025 and Engineering Department memo dated 10/22/2025. Representative Ken Battleamente agreed to the conditions. - 33625 Aurora Road (3 Owls Holding LLC / Mid America Management Corporation): site-plan review; Planning Commission recommended approval contingent on Planning memo dated 10/21/2025, Engineering memo dated 10/22/2025, and Fire Department memo dated 10/16/2025. Representative Josh Rosen attended and accepted the requirements.

Councilmember Bentley moved to approve the Planning Commission consent items; the motion was seconded and roll call showed unanimous approval.

The consent ordinance items approved by the council under suspension and final passage included: - Ordinance No. 2025204: accepting MetLife proposal for employee vision insurance for 01/01/2026–12/31/2026 (approved; finance committee reviewed prior to council). - Ordinance No. 2025205: accepting Medical Mutual proposal for employee medical and prescription drug benefit plans for 2026 (approved; finance committee reviewed). - Ordinance No. 2025206: accepting Guardian Insurance proposal for employee dental benefit plans for 2026 (approved; finance committee reviewed). - Ordinance No. 2025207: approving Change Order No. 1 to the contract with A1 Industrial Resources for the Grant Wood Golf Course pump station renovation project in the amount of $9,311.50 to ensure appropriate power to Fountain No. 3 (approved; discussed at safety committee). - Ordinance No. 2025208: authorizing the mayor or designee to file an application with the Cuyahoga County Department of Development for a $50,000 supplemental grant to install fiber optic cable at Community Park (approved; discussed at safety committee).
