The commission approved six-year extensions of obsolete-property rehabilitation exemption certificates for two adjacent Red Hawk properties in the downtown core after staff explained the citys prior "6 and 6" policy and confirmed the projects were complete under that policy.
The Bay City City Commission on Nov. 3 approved two resolutions granting six-year extensions for obsolete-property rehabilitation exemption certificates to Red Hawk Opportunities LLC (300 Center Avenue) and Red Hawk Ventures LLC (308 Center Avenue).
Staff explained the extensions follow a longstanding local policy used when the city originally offered abatement periods: the city issued an initial six-year abatement and, if the owner completed the approved rehabilitation, allowed the owner to apply for an additional six years to reach the full 12-year abatement commonly used in pro-formas. City staff said the projects are complete and the owners met the requirements to apply for the second six-year term.
Both resolutions passed on roll calls recorded by the clerk.
No public comment was made on the two extension items during the public hearings.
The approvals allow the property owners to continue receiving the property rehabilitation exemption for the extended term specified in the resolutions.
