District administrators updated the committee on the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT), a regional career and technical education campus in Warwick Township that serves Council Rock and three other sending districts.
Officials said MBIT's day program serves roughly 900 students across 21'2 program areas; Council Rock accounts for approximately 178 of those students, who attend AM or PM sessions while remaining enrolled at north or south high schools. Programs currently popular among Council Rock students include cosmetology, welding, building trades, HVAC, automotive and electrical technology. Many programs offer industry credentials or require industry hours for credentialing.
Administrators said MBIT produces regular newsletters and holds an open house (scheduled for Nov. 20) and that the center offers shadowing opportunities for eighth graders. Officials noted MBIT receives some funding from Perkins grants and that the consortium model means sending districts contribute per-student payments; while MBIT has a modest fund balance, large capital projects and payment delays across sending districts could create cash-flow pressure.
The district noted a recent MBIT investment in a new welding lab and said the biggest ongoing constraint is available space, as interest in CTE programs grows across member districts. No board action was taken during the update.
