A council member told the Mount Shasta City Council on Oct. 31 that they attended several Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) training sessions and that the sessions surfaced outstanding issues related to the city's volunteer fire department.
"It was a good experience, good information for me," the council member said, and added that they and another council member had met with the fire chief several times to review issues and would bring new information to the council in coming weeks.
The council member said they had met twice with Charlie, the city auditor, and that the audit process is under way but likely will not be finished until January because the auditor is currently out of the country. The council member also announced a resignation in the accounting department: "Aaron will be departing. So we'll be posting the recruitment. I think it got posted today. It'll be running in the newspaper for the next few weeks," the council member said.
Council members briefly discussed follow-up items including enterprise funds and library-system matters; staff did not present formal motions or votes during the report. The council did not take formal action on the volunteer-fire pay questions during the meeting; the council member said they would return with more information.
