The Manitowoc School District board adopted a superintendent-evaluation timeline and approved several policy updates during the meeting.

Board members discussed a proposed January-to-December evaluation cycle and a related portal that will outline steps, deadlines and responsibilities for trustees and administrators. A motion to adopt the timeline was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.

The board also considered three policy updates — school fees and fines, Fair Labor Standards Act guidance and facility security — that administrators recommended be processed through committee review with staggered rollouts to avoid a large simultaneous policy update. A motion to approve the recommended policy updates passed by voice vote.

During discussion trustees emphasized the governance role of the board versus administrative responsibilities and said they would review policy recommendations for areas where they wished to exercise oversight. Administrators said policies had been neglected over time and that the proposed approach aims to catch the district up and then maintain more manageable update cycles.

A motion to adjourn was made and seconded and the meeting ended by voice vote.
