He said he researched period garage-door styles and selected a design with upper windows and simpler panel lines to approximate what might have been used in the 1920s and 1930s.
Board members asked whether the current doors are original; staff and the applicant confirmed the existing doors are later replacements and there is no photographic evidence showing the original garage doors. During discussion, board members said a lighter gray may be preferable on the south side for long-term appearance and minor thermal expansion considerations.
