Resident Wayne Wilson addressed the board during public comment with two primary requests: clearer procedures for volunteers to gain access to schools, and a written accounting of district spending related to a multi-year rebranding effort.
Wilson said volunteers at some schools have been told to submit emails but have received no response and asked whether the district has a formal procedure for approving volunteers. "When is the district gonna start letting volunteers into the schools? They wanted to know if there was a procedure because at one of the schools, they've sent emails and not getting responses on getting into the schools as volunteers," Wilson said.
Wilson also described a recent situation in which new chairs placed in the high school gym bore the district emblem and said the athletic director asked teams to donate $1,000 to defray costs. He asked the board to "request document or all the lines, a list of all expenses that we paid into that rebranding from '21 till now" to understand cumulative spending.
Wilson praised veteran programming and asked that the district publicize volunteer opportunities for veterans and a diploma program intended for veterans who did not graduate previously.
The board did not take immediate action on Wilson's requests during the meeting; his remarks were made during the public comment period and the speaker provided his address for the record.
