Gateway School District staff announced a community canned-goods drop-off from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the Monroe Convention Center. The event will collect nonperishable items for local food banks including Crossroads, Garden City, Reclamation Church and the district's own Gateway Backpack Program. Staff said distribution organizations will share collected items among their networks.

Staff also reminded families that the district's monthly food distribution takes place on the second Wednesday of every month at the high school. There is no registration; recipients arrive and are served on a first-come basis. Gates open at 6 a.m., and staff requested that people avoid lining up excessively early (staff suggested 4:30 a.m. as an earliest reasonable time) to minimize conflicts with normal school drop-off and after-school activities. Security and traffic are managed on-site by district officers.

Administration said the district is developing a flyer and a phone line to answer community questions; information will be posted on the district Facebook page. The Nov. 11 drop-off coincides with a Veterans Day tribute later that evening; staff said the convention-center distribution will not attempt to consolidate all donations from every partner at the high-school tribute and therefore encouraged using the convention-center drop-off.
