Philomath — Members of the Philomath Inclusivity Committee reported on recent community outreach and a status update for the Philomath Fellowship during the meeting.
Committee members said they staffed a Farmers Market table on a cold, rainy Sunday and spoke with a number of community members; at least two people expressed interest in volunteering for future events and their contact information was collected. "We talked to at least some community members. There were two people that were interested in learning more," a committee member said during the meeting.
The group acknowledged a volunteer, Diane Crocker, who translated a local vendors/resources list into Spanish; members said the translated material is available for distribution and that Diane did the translation work. Committee members discussed using Google Forms or a similar online form to collect volunteer contact information for future events and emphasized that outreach materials should include non‑written alternatives (audio or short videos) and be culturally responsive.
On the Philomath Fellowship, members said organizers and some external community participants are "regrouping and figuring out what that group looks like," and that a fuller update will come at the next meeting in January. The committee agreed that planning for community heritage events will require at least six months of lead time and recommended beginning larger event planning in January.
Committee members also noted upcoming activities from local partners: a Dia de los Muertos event at the Corvallis Museum, a lecture on Indian agencies and removal at the Corvallis Museum, a Black History in Benton County tour on Nov. 14, and an opening of a photography exhibit on Nov. 20 featuring Matika Wilbur's Project 562 (as listed in the meeting packet). Staff said they would circulate event details to the committee via email.
The committee set its next regular meeting for Jan. 27 and asked staff to forward community-event information and to circulate the consolidated handbook draft for review before application windows open for committee appointments in January.
