At its Oct. 29 meeting, the Flower Mound Animal Services Advisory Board reelected Beth Soderbergh as chair and selected Kelly Furnace as vice chair. The board also approved the Aug. 27, 2025 meeting minutes, heard a staff report on shelter statistics and donations, and voted to create a subcommittee to plan a larger Christmas parade float for 2026.
During the board’s opening election, a member moved to reelect Beth Soderbergh as chair; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. A separate motion to elect Kelly Furnace as vice chair was seconded and approved by roll call.
Under consent the board considered approval of the minutes from its Aug. 27 meeting; a motion to approve was seconded and the minutes were adopted by roll call.
A staff member identified as Christine presented the shelter’s monthly statistics, explaining categories tracked at the shelter (impounds, surrenders/releases, adoptions, transfers to rescue, "other" species such as rabbits and reptiles, euthanasia reasons and bite reports). She said donations are held in a restricted animal-care fund that supplements town-provided supplies and can be used for major medical needs (for example, amputations or other surgeries) as well as routine spay/neuter and vaccination assistance when appropriate.
Board members debated whether to enter the Dec. 5 Christmas parade this year or postpone an elaborate first float to 2026. Given time constraints and required commitments by Nov. 21 to enter this year, members voted to form a subcommittee to plan a float for 2026. Lori Applebaum agreed to lead the subcommittee and several members volunteered to participate. The motion to create the subcommittee was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
Members also reviewed outreach events and a scheduled Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP) low-cost clinic on Nov. 8. Staff explained volunteer onboarding includes an online volunteer application and an external background check coordinated with human resources; cleared volunteers may assist at outreach events without completing the full shelter orientation, while full shelter volunteering requires orientation. Staff said the shelter does not take animals offsite for school visits because of vaccine and behavior-control considerations.
The board closed by coordinating 2026 meeting dates and adjourning. No ordinance, statute or other legal action was taken.
