The Marshall City Council held a public hearing and then adopted a resolution to vacate a portion of a platted right‑of‑way adjacent to 500 Pleasant Street (the Northwest right‑of‑way, Lot 6, Lot 2 of Eastman’s Addition).
Jason Anderson, the city’s director of public works and city engineer, told the council staff received a petition from the adjacent property owner to vacate the platted right‑of‑way. Anderson said the right‑of‑way currently serves as a sidewalk leading to the pedestrian bridge over the Redwood River at Fifth and Pleasant; staff recommended approval after reviewing the petition and coordinating with a licensed land surveyor.
Anderson said the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reviewed the proposal because the parcel abuts public water and “they have no negative comment to this as well.” Staff noted the city will retain the area where the walkway resides so pedestrian access to the bridge is preserved.
A member of the public did not raise objections at the hearing. The council closed the public hearing, moved the resolution forward and adopted the resolution by roll call vote.
No conditions other than retaining the walkway area were recorded in the minutes; staff said the property owner had coordinated with a licensed surveyor and that city staff saw no impediment to granting the petition.
