The Gardena City Council on Oct. 28 appointed Councilmember Paulette Francis to serve as the city's representative on the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District Board of Trustees. Staff noted the appointment should be for either a two- or four-year term under the applicable state health and safety code; the city attorney recommended a two-year term in order to align with the city’s election cycle. The term was described in the staff report as commencing on Jan. 5, 2026.
Staff told the council that board members do not receive base compensation but are eligible for a $100 monthly travel stipend for attending regularly scheduled monthly board meetings, which are held on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The Vector Control District does not permit alternate representatives.
There were no public speakers on the item. Councilmember Tanaka moved to appoint Councilmember Francis to the board for a two-year term; Councilmember Henderson seconded. The motion passed 5–0 (Serta, Henderson, Tanaka, Francis, Love).
