The Boston School Committee voted on Oct. 29 to extend Superintendent Mary Skipper's employment through June 30, 2030, approving a five-year contract intended to provide leadership stability as the district pursues long-term academic goals.
Chair Jerry Robinson summarized the negotiated terms before the roll-call vote. The contract is retroactive to July 1, 2025, and runs through June 30, 2030. For the 2025-26 school year the annual salary is $324,643, a 3% increase calculated from the 2024 base of $315,188; future annual raises of 3% are conditioned on an overall rating of proficient or exemplary in the superintendent's performance evaluation. The contract also provides a $60,000 annual annuity (deferred compensation), an annual $1,500 dental supplement, 26 sick days and 30 paid vacation days per contract year, and a monthly $650 travel allowance.
Board members framed the vote as an investment in continuity following a period of leadership turnover, with several members saying steady leadership can support better hiring and higher-quality instructional work.
Chair Robinson called the roll and announced the motion passed. The committee directed staff to post the fully executed contract publicly once signed by all parties.
