Missy Savage addressed the facilities committee during public comment and urged greater transparency and board engagement in committee meetings.
Savage said there had been “a near complete lapse in committee meetings from 2022 to 2024,” and that the practice of holding individual committee meetings resumed only in 2025 after what she described as urging by Dr. David Heizer. “The board president and the committee lead certainly knew about their roles in making these meetings happen,” Savage said, adding that committees provide the public the opportunity to observe discussion and deliberation required to be held in public.
Savage singled out a recent education and student services committee meeting where administrators presented dense assessment data showing growth and above‑average performance. She asked the district to present comparative data against surrounding school districts over time, saying: “To me, that's an important comparison because our local area school districts are similar in demographics and face similar challenges. So knowing if Boyertown's academic performance is exceeding or falling behind surrounding districts is an important indicator of success.”
Her comments included the observation that, despite administrators’ effort to compile presentation materials, the board asked only one question after a lengthy presentation. Savage concluded by thanking administrators for the presentations given so far and asking for more board engagement in committee meetings.
The committee did not take formal action in response to the public comment during the meeting summary. The committee’s next facilities meeting was set for Jan. 27 at 6:00 p.m.
