At its Jan. 13 regular meeting the Huber Heights City Council approved multiple routine and administrative items. Several of the actions were carried by unanimous roll-call votes of the members present (8-0). The council’s formal actions that evening included appointments, adoption of rules and the authorization to solicit construction and service bids.
Votes and formal actions recorded in the meeting minutes:
- Motion to excuse Councilmember Mark Campbell’s absence: approved (vote recorded 8-0). The clerk noted Campbell had sent an email explaining work-related travel.
- Approval of minutes from the Dec. 9, 2024 council meeting: minutes approved (no roll-call objection reported).
- Saint Peter Food Pantry: mayoral presentation of a $1,000 city donation; presentation accepted (informational; no formal vote recorded).
- Appointment of Mark Campbell as vice mayor for 2025 (Item 10a): motion to appoint carried 8-0.
- Appointment of Christopher Darren to the Property Maintenance Review Board (term ending Dec. 31, 2025) (Item 10b): motion carried 8-0; background check completed per human resources.
- Adoption of the 2025 Rules of Council (Item 10c): Council approved rules revisions limited to changes required by recently passed charter amendments; motion carried 8-0.
- Ordinance continuing the 0.25% earned income tax and companion resolution to place the continuation on the May 6, 2025 ballot (Items 10d and 10e): both approved (see separate coverage for full detail).
- Resolution amending/establishing the city organizational chart and authorizing staffing levels (Item 10f): adopted 8-0 (see separate coverage for staffing discussion).
- Resolution establishing salary ranges and wage levels, including a 2.75% COLA for noncontract employees (Item 10g): adopted 8-0.
- Resolution authorizing solicitation of bids for construction and renovation of Fire Station 23 (Item 10h): adopted 8-0; architecture work previously approved in July.
- Resolution authorizing solicitation of bids for a three-year janitorial services contract covering city facilities including city hall, police building, senior center and the future governance center (Item 10i): adopted 8-0.
Public comment highlights and other nonvoted items:
- Multiple residents and attendees praised the newly opened Huber Heights Senior Center; council and staff thanked volunteers and staff for their work.
- A public speaker from Miami County’s Bethel Township criticized the council’s annexation vote related to a large development in Miami County (public comment item); the speaker said Bethel Township residents and elected officials opposed the annexation. That matter was raised during public comments and no council action on annexation was taken at the meeting.
