House leadership announced committee chairs and vice chairs for standing and joint committees for the 90th General Assembly and named assistant speakers pro tem.
Speaker Brian S. Evans named Representative Dwight Tosh, Representative Fred Allen and Representative Kendra Moore as assistant speakers pro tem. The House announced chairs and vice chairs for standing committees, including Representative Keith Brooks as chair of House Education (vice chair Britt McKenzie), Representative Carol Daube as chair of House Judiciary (vice chair Kendon Underwood), Representative Jeffrey Wardlaw as chair of Public Health, Welfare and Labor (vice chair Jeremy Wooldridge), and Representative Fran Kavanaugh as chair of Revenue and Taxation (vice chair David Ray). Representative Mike Holcomb was listed as chair of Public Transportation with John Milligan as vice chair.
Additional committee leadership announced included chairs for Agriculture, City, County and Local Affairs, State Agencies and Governmental Affairs and select and joint committees. The House also announced chairs for joint committees such as Joint Committee on Energy (Chair Matthew Shepherd, Vice Chair Zach Gramlich), Joint Committee on Public Retirement and Social Security Programs (Chair Les Warren, Vice Chair Kendra Moore) and the Joint Committee on Advanced Communications and Information Technologies (Chair Steven Meeks, Vice Chair Austin McCollum).
Leadership also announced administrative items and logistics: the joint budget committee was scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. the next morning in Big Mac A to adopt rules and begin its work; staff distributed lapel pins for new members; and members were told offices would be available for all members and that sign-in sheets on desks should be completed.
These announcements set committee assignments that will determine which members review and advance legislation in each policy area during the session.
