The Marin County Board of Supervisors swore in two supervisors and approved its 2025 leadership at a ceremony and reorganizational meeting on Jan. 14.
Brian Lewis Colbert and Stephanie Moulton Peters each took the oath of office administered during a public ceremony that included remarks from family and community members. After a roll call, the board approved a motion to name Mary Sackett board president, Eric Lukin vice president and Supervisor Stephanie Moulton Peters second vice president.
The reorganization followed a public-comment period tied to the ceremonial item. Several speakers raised concerns about Marin City and about whether newly sworn officials will represent longstanding, historically Black communities. One commenter identified as “Eva” observed that Colbert is the first Black supervisor in Marin County “who does not hail from Marin City,” and noted apprehension among Marin City residents about whether the county will continue to address local needs. Another commenter, Rodrigo Esquierdo, urged new supervisors to visit and engage with Marin City and other neighborhoods outside their districts.
Supervisor Brian Colbert used his remarks after the oath to outline three priorities for his term: wildfire preparedness and mitigation; maintaining Marin’s open space while finding housing for working families; and promoting community vitality and opportunity countywide. “My overarching priority is excellence from myself, my team, and county staff,” Colbert said as he described wildfire preparation, housing and community vitality as guiding themes.
Supervisor Mary Sackett, who took the gavel after the reorganization vote, thanked outgoing President Dennis Rodoni for his year of service and acknowledged local elected officials who attended the ceremony. Board members used their opportunity for brief reflections to note recent county accomplishments — including open-space acquisitions, grants for wetland restoration, and ongoing housing projects in Marin City — and to stress collaboration with county staff and community partners in 2025.
